Spring 2012 Courses - Ascentis Level 3
Community Interpreting: Essential Skills and Knowledge (CIESK)
EXETER COURSE

Sundays 10am – 4.00pm (29/1, 5/2, 19/2, 18/3, 1/4, 8/4, 22/4, 13/5, 27/5, 10/6) 5 dates in bold are compulsory
PAIGNTON COURSE
Tutor: Anil Lee (Multilingua Manager)
Venue: Paignton Library
Start Date: 4th February 2012
Saturdays 10am – 4.00pm (4/2, 18/2, 3/3, 17/3, 31/3, 7/4, 21/4, 12/5, 2/6, 16/6) 5 dates in bold are compulsory
*Both courses begin with a compulsory three-hour induction course on Sunday January 22nd from 1pm to 4pm at WEA Exeter
The CIESK accredited course is for people who are very fluent in English and another language and who have:

Paid or unpaid experience of interpreting in public services in the UK

Understanding and knowledge of the communities they represent

Fluency in English and another language spoken locally
It is a 60 hour course focusing on interpreting skills, the role of the interpreter and issues raised. The cost is £295, it is free for those on means-tested benefits such as Job Seekers Allowance or Income Support.
